That is WOLF: Wild Life & Farmers

"WOLF: Wild Life & Farmers" is a interregional and transnational cooperation project where eleven Local Action Groups (LAGs) Spanish of the Asturias, Castilla y León, and Galicia, more LAGs of Estonia, Portugal and Romania try to perform as cooperation environmental, economic and social cooperation between agents and groups involved in the issue of coexistence between wildlife (bear and wolf) and Livestock Farming. Trying to encourage the search for new sources of employment in rural areas and the rich natural environment of the relevant jurisdictions.

As the wolf wild animal that creates major problems and controversies throughout the European Union (EU) between advocates and conservationists and environmental groups, and critics, as ranchers and hunters, is why we have chosen the English name to designate the project: WOLF: Wild Life & Farmers.

 

What are your goals?

  • Enhancing livestock as necessary activity to improve biodiversity; placing value on the figure of the farmer as a key to develop sustainable territories.
  • Increase awareness of the general public, encouraging and promoting change in the view that in some sectors of rural areas have about the wolf.
  • Promote, propose actions and disseminate compatibility and coexistence between farming and the Wolf.
  • Structuring the different elements and actors (administrations meiodambientales, ranchers, hunters, Agricultural Organisations, associations and conservation organizations, local governments and rural entrepreneurs) to jointly seek various uses sustainable wildlife around, in general.
 

What actions will be taken?

This project of the National Rural Network, which has the support of the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs of Spain, aims to 2013:

  • Raise and deliver to the European Commission and member states a consensus proposal, using the LEADER approach, making a DVD and a comparative study of measures and actions and agrocompatibilidad coexistence.
  • Actions Environmental Education with the support of an itinerant exhibition, showing the concept of coexistence of wildlife and Livestock Farming and the beginning of an era that forgets the dichotomy "human - wildlife" to begin the XXI century as the era sustainable development, endogenous and participatory.
  • Designing in the participating territories, with agents and groups involved sustainable products and services related to tourism, quality products, the Artesani, etc.
